The D57 runs down from Sarlat and the D703 follows the river from La Roque-Gageac, and both put you in the village under the cliff. It is about ten kilometres from Sarlat and under twenty minutes in normal traffic. What takes the time is the last part: every car park in the commune is paid, all year, the two upper lots are the short walk to the entrance and they fill first on a summer morning. By train
Sarlat-la-Canéda is a terminus, at the end of two TER Nouvelle-Aquitaine lines: Bordeaux–Libourne–Bergerac–Le Buisson–Sarlat, and Périgueux–Les Eyzies–Le Buisson–Sarlat. Siorac-en-Périgord sits on the Bordeaux line as well. No timetable or highway authority publishes a road distance from those platforms to Beynac beyond the ten kilometres from Sarlat itself, so none is printed here. In practice the train gets you to Sarlat and something else covers the last stretch.
By air
Three airports are named by the tourist office for the Périgord Noir: Bergerac Dordogne Périgord, Brive Vallée Dordogne, and Bordeaux-Mérignac. All three have car hire desks, which matters, because there is no rail or bus chain from any of them to this village. Toulouse is not on the tourist office’s list of gateways. For drivers arriving from further off, the road times the office does publish are to the Périgord Noir rather than to Beynac: about two hours from Bordeaux, two from Toulouse, four from Lyon, four hours and three quarters from Nantes and five and a half from Marseille, using the A20 and the A89.
By bus, and the months there is none
Regional lines 16 and 338, the Vallée de la Dordogne services, stop in the village at “Beynac-et-Cazenac – Château” and at Camping le Capeyrou, with roughly six departures a day including weekends. That is a summer-only service, roughly July and August; the timetable published when this site was written covered the 2025 window and the 2026 dates were not online, so check the current timetable before building a day around it. Line 336, Périgueux–Montignac-Lascaux–Sarlat, runs all year and does not serve Beynac. Outside the summer window no scheduled bus stops in the village at all.
Without a car
The half-day tour from Sarlat is the answer most visitors without a car end up taking: a van from Place Pasteur, twenty minutes to Beynac, a guided walk of the village, then La Roque-Gageac for an hour on a gabarre and a hundred minutes in Domme.
